1000 Islands and Highway 401 Corridor
The St. Lawrence River seaway - home of the 1000 Islands - runs parallel to Canada's busiest Highway 401 and the scenic 1000 Islands Parkway. There is direct access to the United States via two international bridges. The corridor includes a main rail line and a deep-water port. It is a transportation hub with a diverse industrial base, including 3M Canada Company, Canarm Ltd., Northern Cables, Wills Transfer and Kriska Transportation, to name a few.
Rideau Canal Waterway/Highway 15 Corridor
The Rideau Canal Waterway stretches 202 kilometres (125 miles) and links the lakes and rivers between Kingston and Ottawa. It is the oldest continually-operated canal in North America. The Rideau Canal is a National Historic Site of Canada, a Canadian Heritage River (first opened in 1832) and a UNESCO World Heritage site (visit whc.unesco.org). Operated by Parks Canada, the canal has 24 lock stations. All are accessible by road and can be reached by vehicle, bicycle or on foot.
Highway 416 Corridor
This 400-series highway is anchored by the International Port of Johnstown and the Prescott-Ogdensburg International Bridge and the St. Lawrence River to the south and stretches north to the nation's capital, Ottawa. The international bridge is an important transportation link between Canada and the USA. Highway 416 intersects with Highway 401 and connects the region to the rest of Canada.
